Kenneth L. “Ken” Cappelletty, 72, the founder and co-owner of Ken’s Flower Shops and Deacon at St. Rose Catholic Church in Perrysburg, passed away after a prolonged illness at Hospice of Northwest Ohio on January 11, 2013 with his family by his side.
A pillar of Toledo’s business community and an active and devoted member of his parish, Ken was known for his kindness, fairness and sense of justice, not to mention his love of laughter and a good story.
Born in 1940 in Toledo, Ohio, to Ernest and Genevieve Cappelletty, Ken was part of the first graduating class at St. Francis de Sales High School in 1958 and later attended the University Of Toledo. Ken opened Ken’s Flower Shop on Dorr Street in 1965, the first of what would eventually be six stores in the greater Toledo area, including a flagship store in Perrysburg. Along with business partner and good friend Fred Moor, Ken, a true entrepreneur, also tried his hand in both the restaurant and furniture businesses.
