LaVerne Marie (Finney) Avery, age 83, of Mesa, Arizona., passed away peacefully at 8 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 19, 2012) while in hospice care in Mesa.
LaVerne was born on April 1, 1929 in Long Beach, California, to Earnest and Tressie (Lowery) Finney. Graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School in 1947, attended Long Beach City College and graduated from Bowling Green Ohio State University in 1951.
She married Donald (Bill) Keith Avery on October 28, 1950 at United Brethren Church, Bowling Green, OH. After 53 years of marriage, he preceded her in death on June 12, 2004.
LaVerne taught school in Monroe, Michigan, Eastwood School district in Ohio and Bowling Green Public School in Ohio. Was an active member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority, Epsilon Chapter of CCL, Ohio Genealogy and Wood County Historical Society, Wood County and Bowling Green Retired Teachers Association, Sorosis Club, H.W. Investment Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary Lybarger-Grimm No. 441.
