L. Maria McMurray, 97, passed away on July 5, 2012 at Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
Maria was born October 23, 1914 in Transylvania (present day Romania). Immigrating to the United States in 1920 with her mother, Agneta, she later became big sister to Albert and Joan while living in Pennsylvania.
Upon the early death of her mother, Maria was blessed to be cared for by several loving foster families. A special relationship was established with Clair and Mary Brehm and their daughters Libby and Josie of Wilkinsburg, Pa. Through their love and kindness, Maria became a life long member of their family. As Maria’s own family grew, Clair and Mary became our GM and GP and their daughters our aunts. We always thought of each other as a real family.
While in nurse’s training at Toledo’s St. Vincent’s Hospital, Maria met and married Carl D. McMurray. They enjoyed almost 71 years together in Maumee before Carl’s death in 2008. Since then Maria resided at Otterbein-Portage Valley Retirement Community.
